Of the 40 species of birds that we find in Trinidad & Tobago, the most common species is the hummingbird with over 17 different species!

Trinidad & Tobago’s large biodiversity, which includes over 450 species of birds explains why the islands are a favourite destination for birdwatchers. The islands’ eclectic mix of birds includes Honeycreepers, Tanagers, Woodpeckers, Trogons, Parrots, Manakins, Hummingbirds and several others.

Of the 40 species of birds that we find in Trinidad & Tobago, the most common species is the hummingbird with over 17 different species! One hummingbird, the Tufted Coquette, which is about the size of your thumb, is a charming creature. The male’s red crest and tufts tipped in iridescent green will catch your attention.

The Cocrico

The Cocirco is restricted to Tobago and is the island’s national bird. You cannot miss its distinctive rattling call from which it gets its name.
