The Trinidad Carnival is a 2-day event that occurs on the Monday and Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. The carnival is a celebration of music, dance, costumes and all things extravagant. It is the most popular Carnival in the Caribbean and there are several events and celebrations that take place before the Carnival itself.

Features of the Trinidad Carnival

This includes some beautiful costumes, exciting bands, enthusiastic masquaraders, Carnival Kings and Queens, Calypso tents, Soca parties and hundreds of pre-Carnival fetes.

Sounds of the Trinidad Carnival

You will also hear the sweet sounds steelpans from various steelbands. And if you happen to love the sweet sounds of steelpans, you can attend Panorama, the largest steelband competition in the world and one of the most popular competitions during Carnival.

Highlights of the Trinidad Carnival

There are many wonderful aspects to Trinidad’s Carnival. Some of our personal favorites include the women, who dominate the festival, soca music, calypso music, Panorama and j’Ouvert are only some of the highlights of Trinidad’s Carnival. And who can forget kiddies’ mass and the various carnival shows that take place all around Port of Spain. During Trinidad’s Carnival, you can find everything from well-behaved all-inclusives to the big “bad” public fetes.

Mas

For anybody who plans to play Mas, advance registration is needed for many of the bands and it is important to book early so that you may be in the same section as your friends. It’s also important to register early so that you can get your costume early and also ensure that your costume covers as much (or as little) of you as you desire.

SteelBands

Carnival in Trinidad would be nothing without the sweet sound of the steelbands. Not many people know this, but the pan was invented in Trinidad and many bands have legions of loyal fans. If you happen to be steelpan fanatic, you cannot afford to miss the Trinidad Carnival

Calypso and Soca

The sounds of calypso and soca fuel the fetes and tents that keep the Carnival crowds going from dusk to dawn. You will find various sites devoted to soca and calypso bands and musicians.
